2009 Men's Web Gems
1. Player: Jason Jeffers / Position: Left Field / Team: Steve’s Sports
In the top of the 1st inning, Jason Jeffers makes a diving catch of a hit by Matt Dolciato (Ramacciato’s). Jeffers rapidly stands up and guns the ball to his second baseman, Ryan Wood, who then relays the ball to first baseman, Brian Bizinski, to double off the runner, Stefan English.
2. Player: Nick Barille / Position: Third Base / Team: Wonder Gro-Caves Sunoco
Nick Barille snags a grounder at third base, steps on third to force out Brian Wroblewski (Bohica Softball), and then lasers it to Lee Harris at first base to complete the double play on Kevin Markum.
3. Player: Ed Bailey / Position: Left Center / Team: Steve’s Sports
Ed Bailey fields Alex Stuckart’s (Cleats) hit and then throws a seed to his catcher, Jason Sefcik, in time to get runner, Nate Reed, trying to score at home.
4. Player: Jeff Henfling / Position: Shortstop / Team: Wonder Gro-Caves Sunoco
Jeff Henfling runs backwards, almost tripping over his own feet, and reaches back to rob Sean Lachman (Pizzazz) of a bloop hit.
5. Player: Austin Opalich / Position: First Base / Team: BW-3
For the second out in the top of the third inning, Austin Opalich makes an amazing dive and catch at first base, taking a hit away from Rich Loparo (Cleats).
6. Player: Tim Neumann / Position: Left Center / Team: Cleats
Tim Neumann goes running and then lays out for an amazing head-first sliding catch in the outfield, robbing a BW-3 hitter of a base hit.
7. Player: Scott Shantery / Position: Third Base / Team: Scoreboard Tavern
With the quickness of a cat, Scott Shantery dives to his right to snag a low liner hit by Rob Gallo (Lakewood Village) that was going down the third base line.
8. Player: Marc Berkowitz / Position: Right Center / Team: Pizzazz
Marc Berkowitz runs and leaps up to catch a fly ball, robbing Bryan Lette (Paradise R & P) of extra bases.
9. Player: Dan Ertter / Position: Left Center / Team: Cleats
Dan Ertter makes an excellent catch, after backpedaling, twisting, and then leaping, on Randy Labbato’s (Bohica Softball) deep fly ball.
10.Player: Chris Lachman / Position: Left Field / Team: Pizzazz
Chris Lachman takes advantage of the all-you-can-get foul territory by running down Greg Trivisono’s (Steve’s Sports) foul ball, which almost landed on the adjacent field.
11. Player: Alex Stuckart / Position: Shortstop / Team: Cleats
Alex Stuckart hustles and dives to cleanly field Jason Jeffers’ (Steve’s Sports) hard-hit grounder up the middle. Stuckart finishes the play by successfully flipping the ball with his glove to force the runner out at second base.
12. Player: Ed Bailey / Position: Left Center / Team: Steve’s Sports
Ed Bailey charges in on Bob Mandato’s (Scoreboard Tavern) liner to left center and gracefully slides to make the catch.
13. Player: Ed Bailey / Position: Left Center / Team: Steve’s Sports
Just as in the previous web gem, Ed Bailey charges in - this time on Chris Matteucci’s (Scoreboard Tavern) liner to left center - and gracefully slides to make the catch.
14. Player: Jim Cecconi / Position: Shortstop / Team: Scoreboard Tavern
Using his excellent reflexes as a shortstop, Jim Cecconi somehow stabs Jason Jeffers’ (Steve’s Sports) hard hit grounder in the hole and with impressive fluidity fires to his second baseman, Bob Mandato, to get the inning-ending force out at second base.
