Hudak Wins Week 10 PPP; Week 11 PPP - Last One of Summer Season!

Joe Hudak of Riverwood Cafe/Dunn in the Lakewood Sunday Night Men league won the Week 10 Power Players Poll by garnering 24% of the vote, the lowest percentage of any outright winner this season. However, his 7/7 with 4 HRs were worthy of a victory, as he nosed out Kristy Booher who received 20% of the vote. His week will forever be remembered in the Banzuke.
The Week 11 Power Players Poll will be the last one of the summer season, as all summer leagues are complete. The candidates for this week are: Sean Lachman, Heather Sheber, Brian Berman, Derek Dolgowicz, John Steel, Laura Pugel, Cliff Vanderwyst, and Derek Dorsey.
'Team Fejes Scores Lots o' Runs, Team Fejes FUN FUN FUN!'

Team Fejes of the Gesu Sunday Morning League ended a season of near perfection by defeating its rival Buckeyes in two straight games for the league championship. The Buckeyes split with Team Fejes in the regular season, giving Team Fejes its only regular season loss. However, the number one seed came out extra strong in the championship, convincingly winning the best-two-out-of-three championship in two straight by scores of 16-10 and 15-5.

Mulligan's and PEF Win MV Coed Championships

Mulligan's/Lifeguard Wealth Management of the Mayfield Village Competitive Coed league defeated Scalpers in an exciting 9 innings to win the postseason championship. Muligan's scored 4 in the bottom of the 9th to steal the victory away from Scalpers.
The Mayfield Village Recreational league had a memorable championship game, as well, as PEF Federal Credit Union defeated Jack Matia Honda by scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the 7th. With the win, PEF remained undefeated throughout the entire season with a 16-0-1 record. | Photos of the Champions
Lifeguard Financial Wins MV 50+ Men's League, Bring on the Silly String!

Lifeguard Financial went a perfect 4-0 in the Mayfield Village 50+ Men's League Playoffs to win the the league championship. Lifeguard defeated last year's champs, Wright Place by a final of 20-9. Wright Place had a 5-run 5th, making the score 11-9. However, Lifeguard responding with a 5-run inning of their own, and then a 4-run 6th to unofficially seal the deal.
Frank Krawczyk led Lifeguard by going 3/3 with 6 RBI. Lee Lumadue and Rudy Stastny had great games, as well, both going 3/4. Al Bambic went 3/3 with 3 RBI in a losing effort for Wright Place. | Photos of Celebration
Nerone Cruises to Victory; Week 10 Power Players Posted

In the manner of Jamie Hanculak, Ricky Nerone of Elk & Elk in Euclid Division I took an early lead and continually expanded it. This "week's" poll, which actually lasted for almost two weeks because of a shortage of candidates for Week 10 due to playoffs, garnered a new record of 284 votes! Nerone received 39% of those votes, thoroughly defeating his competition. For the week, Nerone went 7/9 with 3 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, and 8 R, which was good enought to earn a spot in the Banzuke - List of Champions.
Eight tremendous candidates have been chosen for the Week 10 Power Players Poll. These candidates are: Joe Hudak, Kristy Booher, Ryan Heipp, Eric Schutz, Jay Kletecka, Adam Benedict, Mike Bailey, and Bob Gallo.
After taking an early lead and never letting it go, Jamie Hanculak of Spectators (Gwin) in the Mayfield Village Men's Recreational League won the Week 8 Power Players Poll by getting 35% of the vote. Similar to the week before, this week's poll received over 200 votes. Making Hanculak's 35% of the vote unusually impressive is the fact that he was up against seven other candidates instead of the usual five. For the week, Hanculak went 5/5 with 3 HR, 9 RBI, and 5 R. His name has now been put alongside the previous winners in the Banzuke - List of Champions.

Autumn Ridge (#9) Outlasts Integrity (#2) in Extra Frames

The Championship game of the Mayfield Village Competitive League pitted two BGSD Top 10 Teams, Integrity Stainless (#2) and Autumn Ridge Energy (#9), against one another, and the game did not disappoint. It was a game of streaks and lead changes. However, after 7 innings of play, the game was knotted at 15 a piece due to Autumn Ridge scoring 5 in the final two frames, including 4 in the bottom of the 7th. In the 8th, Autumn Ridge missed an golden opportunity to score the winning run. In the 9th, an Autumn Ridge outfield mishap gave Integrity two runs. Autumn Ridge did not quit, though, as they stormed back with 3 of their own in the bottom of the inning to take down the top-seeded Integrity, 18-15.
Brandon Hewitt led Autumn Ridge by going 5/6 with 2 HR, 6 RBI, and 4 R. Box Score

Integrity Stainless of the Mayfield Village Competitive League came out of the Loser's Bracket to win the 2010 BGSD Men's Tournament. Integrity, the #1 seed in the tournament, underwent a setback in its second game by losing to Wing Warehouse on a walkoff home run by the 2009 HR Derby Champion Aaron Krieger. However, Integrity stormed back by winning 5 straight games, including one against fellow Mayfield Village competitors Nerone & Sons in the semifinals and two against Wing Warehouse in the finals.
Congratulations to Integrity Stainless, and thanks to all the teams for participating!
Sam & Libby's Wins BGSD Coed Tournament for Third Time. Sam & Libby's of the Richmond Heights Coed league walked away from the 6th Annual BGSD Coed Invitational Tournament with the top trophy for their third time. This victory came after an undefeated 4-0 tournament record. However, the road was not easy for the champs as they needed two game-ending plays at the plate to defeat Ava's Alley of Mayfield Heights and Harry Buffalo of Beachwood by one run a piece, before defeating Icehouse of Lakewood by run rule. Even in the Championship game, Sam and Libby's had to come from behind with big late innings to defeat Ava's Alley by a final of 22-9. Congratulations to Sam & Libby's and Ava's Alley, and thanks to all the teams for participating!

Teammates Gasper & Ranells Split the Week 5 Vote!Matt Gasper and Rich Ranells, teammates on the currently #4 ranked Integrity Stainless of the Mayfield Village Competitive league, shared the highest percentage of votes this week with 23% each. Gasper went 7/8 with 2 HR and 7 RBI, along with 3 BB. Ranells earnded his second Power Player victory of the season by going 6/8 with 2 HR and 11 RBI for his undefeated Panini's team in Mayfield Heights. New for Basketball 2009: League MVP Race! One of our most popular features for softball is unquestionably the League MVP race. BGSD's top secret formula calculates the top offensive performers in the league and ranks them throughout the season, with the top player getting coveted bragging rights. This year, we are excited to announce that we have added the MVP race to all our basketball leagues. Quite a lot of work was put into developing a formula to rate and rank the players in each league, and we hope you enjoy this new feature. Hockey! Hockey! Hockey! BGSD is excited to announce the addition of the East Side Hockey League to our lineup. The adult recreational league plays its games at Thornton Park Arena in Shaker Heights on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights, and is the first hockey league to use BGSD's stats since the BGSD.com website was launched. We look forward to providing the players stats this season! Stats will be posted on our hockey page. Krieger the new Home Run Derby KingAaron Krieger is the leader in BGSD's Player of the Year Chase, and while he struggled at the plate during the tournament, he showed why he is such a potent offensive player in the Home Run Derby. He hit 10 homers in rainy conditions to win the 2009 HR Derby. Our other skills competition winners were Tom Galasky of Paradise Restaurant of Pub, who won the Golden Arm Contest, and Mike Lemponen of Nerone and Sons/Harry Buffalo, who circled the bases in 10.60 seconds to earn the title of Fastest Man. Congratulations to Scoreboard Tavern and Steve's Sports! A big thank you to all the teams who participated in the BGSD Men's Invitational Tournament this weekend! Those that did survived a huge downpour on Day 1 and 90 degree heat on Day 2. The tight time frame due to the rain left the tournament one game short of full completion, and we were forced to declare Scoreboard Tavern and Steve's Sports co-champions.

Harry Buffalo wins Its Second BGSD Coed Invitational! Harry Buffalo continued its run of great performances in the BGSD Invitational with a sweep through this year's 8-team bracket, taking home its second trophy in the tournament's 5-year history. The has finished either first or second every tournament since 2005. Their previous victory came in 2007. The team went through a perfect regular season, cruised to the Richmond Heights league championship and solidified it's status as the top coed team on Saturday with the win. Look to the Cookie! Voters turned out in record numbers last week and enormous support was there for Anthony Valentino, whose 5 HR output and army of voters gave him the win. Valentino wins a Big Cookie Cake from Mrs. Fields in Richmond Town Square, and hopefully will share with his more loyal supporters! His name goes on the Banzuke for the first time.
