New for Basketball 2009: League MVP Race!
10.12.2009
One of our most popular features for softball is unquestionably the League MVP race. BGSD's top secret formula calculates the top offensive performers in the league and ranks them throughout the season, with the top player getting coveted bragging rights. Check our site soon for the BGSD 2009 Softball Honor roll, where will compile all the players who won their respective league's MVPs, as well as recognize the top 10 in the Player of the Year Chase.
This year, we are excited to announce that we have added the MVP race to all our basketball leagues. Quite a lot of work was put into developing a formula to rate and rank the players in each league, and we hope you enjoy this new feature. The first basketball leagues are underway, you can see the formula in action on the pages for the Cleveland Heights Men's and Women's Winter basketball leagues.
Attention Ohio Sports Park Softball Captains/Managers
10.12.2009
To keep costs down, BGSD needs scoresheets to be filled out as accurately as possible. We are working with the scorekeepers to improve on this area, but it is imperative that managers include both the players' FIRST and LAST names when turning in their lineups. Please be sure to do this, and if the scorekeeper has only written down first names on the scoresheet, remind them that their sheets need to have full names, otherwise it quadruples the time it takes to enter your stats, there will be major delays in getting the stats posted, and the chances of mistakes skyrocket.
We are also in the process of testing out a new stats correction form. If you have stat corrections, spelling errors, or other requests, please use this form to report them. This will make sure we get all the information we need and help expedite the corrections.
Hockey, Hockey, Hockey!
9.14.2009
BGSD is excited to announce the addition of the East Side Hockey League to our lineup. The adult recreational league plays its games at Thornton Park Arena in Shaker Heights on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights, and is the first hockey league to use BGSD's stats since the BGSD.com website was launched. We look forward to providing the players stats this season! Stats will be posted on our hockey page
If you or your child play hockey and would like to get a richer experience, with complete player and goalie statistics posted here on our website and for yourself or coaches in hard copy, please contact us at 216-382-4872, or email vbenander@bgsd.com.
Krieger the new Home Run Derby King
8.13.2009
Aaron Krieger is the leader in BGSD's Player of the Year Chase, and while he struggled at the plate during the tournament, he showed why he is such a potent offensive player in the Home Run Derby. He hit 10 homers in rainy conditions to win the 2009 HR Derby.
Our other skills competition winners were Tom Galasky of Paradise Restaurant of Pub, who won the Golden Arm Contest, and Mike Lemponen of Nerone and Sons/Harry Buffalo, who circled the bases in 10.60 seconds to earn the title of Fastest Man.
Contest results here. Also see the best defensive plays on the Web Gems page, including video of the three plays from the final game. You can also watch the video and highlights of the final game.
Congratulations to Scoreboard Tavern and Steve's Sports!
8.9.2009
A big thank you to all the teams who participated in the BGSD Men's Invitational Tournament this weekend! Those that did survived a huge downpour on Day 1 and 90 degree heat on Day 2. The tight time frame due to the rain left the tournament one game short of full completion, and we were forced to declare Scoreboard Tavern and Steve's Sports co-champions.
Scoreboard Tavern snuck through the winner's bracket in the top half, quietly defeating the tournament's #1 seed Lakewood Village and the #3 seed JJEG's. JJEG's was eliminated in the loser's bracket final in a slugfest against Steve's Sports (JRC). Steve's Sports had been sent to the loser's bracket by JJEG's in the semis, but had been using raw power to win games all tournament long. With the sun setting, Steve's Sports easily handled Scoreboard Tavern 15-6 in Game 1 of the finals to earn a share of the championship. Extra thanks go to Larry Shaw of Cleveland Heights for providing fields in the morning to keep the tournament going. Stats | Photos | Web Gems | Video | Contest Results
